As well as updating the tolling system at the Humber Bridge, we are also making key changes to the payment window. This is the amount of time you have to pay the toll after crossing the bridge.
If you cross the Humber Bridge and you don’t have a Humber Bridge account – or if you have an account but you don’t have enough credit on it – you have until midnight on the day after you crossed to pay.
At midnight, an Unpaid Toll Notification will be triggered and an admin fee of £25 will be added to the toll that’s owed.
You will then receive a letter with details of the money you owe and how to pay.
This means that if you cross on a Monday, you have until midnight on Tuesday to pay the toll. But as soon as the clock turns midnight, an Unpaid Toll Notification will be triggered.
This will apply seven days a week, bringing the Humber Bridge into line with other toll crossings in England.

Account holders
The Humber Bridge Toll is a “pay as you cross” system, so it’s vital to keep your account in credit. Under the new system, accounts will no longer be able to run with a negative balance.
The easiest way to avoid admin fees is to use the auto top-up function – just set it up once and you never have to worry about running out of credit.
If you’re unable to set up auto top-up from your credit or debit card, you can set up a regular standing order straight from your bank to your Humber Bridge Toll account. But be careful, bank transfers and standing orders aren’t an instant top-up. Due to bank processing times, they can take up to three days to reach your account.
Guest drivers
When Humber Bridge Toll goes live, the toll booths will close so guest drivers won’t be able to pay as you cross. Instead, you can …
Pay in advance for up to 10 crossings
Pay immediately after you cross using one of the following methods:
To pay in advance, simply visit the new website or use the app, then pop in your vehicle registration number and make a payment.
Pre-paid crossings are valid for 12 months. There will be a feature on the new website where you can keep track of how many pre-paid crossings you have left.
If you buy guest crossings for a car or small van, you’ll pay £2 every time you cross. If you sign up for a Humber Bridge Toll account, your toll will reduce to just £1.50.
You can have up to five vehicles, so your whole family can enjoy the discount from a single account.
There’s no deposit or admin fees - you just need to pay £10 pre-paid credit to open the account and pre-pay £5 additional credit for every vehicle you want to register.
For example, if you want to open an account for yourself and add your partner’s vehicle, you’ll need to add £20 pre-paid credit.
